Vasilyevich Markichev

Born on 9 (21) Jan 1883 in Palekh. Honored art worker of the RSFSR (1934), people's artist of the RSFSR (1943). Member of the Union of artists of the RSFSR in 1934. Hereditary icon painter. In 1895-1901, he studied in the Studio of N. M.Safonova. Teachers - P. A. Plekhanov, I. M. Bakanov. Seven years worked as golicnik have Safonov. Restored monuments of the XVII century in Moscow, Cathedral in Novgorod, the churches in Kostroma, Kalyazin, Volokolamsk, Yaroslavl, the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, Peterhof, Makaryev and Tesin. In 1905-1907 he was a member of an underground revolutionary group. Participant of first world and civil wars. In 1921-1924 he worked as a Decorative art fishing cooperatives. One of the founders of the Artel of ancient painting (4 December 1924). From December 1926 to December 1929 was Chairman of the Cooperative. In 1936, at the head of the brigade painted the room after A. M. Gorky in Leningrad Palace of pioneers. In 1937 at the International exhibition in Paris his work has received the "Grand Prix". In the same year at the head of the brigade painted the pioneer Palace in Ivanovo. During the great Patriotic war was the head of the Association of Palekh artists. In 1946 he participated in the restoration of frescos of the Uspensky Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. Died 29 Sep 1955, buried in Palekh.

In the miniatures of the I. V. Markichev pronounced sense of the monumental image, color and composition balance. Gold painted is very poor. Worked monumental (painting Palaces of pioneers in Leningrad (1936) and Ivanov (1937)), theatrical-decorative painting, porcelain painting, book illustration. Themes of works: folklore, literature, genre scenes, Red Army, hunting. Participated in exhibitions since 1925. I. V. Markichev are stored in museums: gmpi, the state Russian Museum, state Tretyakov gallery, Umgeni, PIM, SHAMS, Ivanovo OC, NGKHM.
