Description of the artwork «The poster for the ballet-pantomime "Princess Hyacinth"»

"Princess Hyacinth" was a ballet-pantomime, its director was Oscar Nedbal.
The premiere was held in 1911 at the National theatre in Prague.
Alfons Mucha's poster features the actress of the leading part Andula Sedlackova as Princess Hyacinth.
In the story, the village blacksmith dreams that his daughter becomes the Princess Hyacinth and she is kidnapped by a wizard.
Using the ornament, Mucha made reference to the story as he drew hearts, a forging tool, a crown, and magic utensils. The flower of hyacinth is woven into a pattern throughout the space of the poster.
