Alekseevich Shovkunenko

Born in Kherson. In 1908 he studied at the OXY, in 1917 – in St. Petersburg Academy of arts (V. Savitsky). In 1913 – 1919 he participated in exhibitions of Church, in 1924 – 1929 – member Of society of artists to them. K. Kostandi. From 1926 he taught at the Odessa Polytechnic of fine arts, from 1929 – OHS (since 1935 – Professor), 1936 – 1965 – KHI. People's artist of the USSR since 1944, member of the Academy of the USSR since 1947. Laureate of the State prize of Ukraine. Shevchenko (1970). Lived and worked in Kiev.

Soviet painter, people's artist of the USSR (1944), full member AH the USSR (1947).

He studied at the Odessa art school (1901-08) with K. K. Kostandi and at the St. Petersburg Academy of arts (1909-17).

He worked in watercolors.

Creator of psychological portraits [B. I. Yakovlev (1944), S. A. Kovpak (1945, see Fig.), M. I. Litvinenko-Volgemut, M. G. Lysenko (both 1947) - all in the Museum of Ukrainian fine arts of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev], industrial landscapes (the cycle of "dneprostroy", 1930-32, Museum of Ukrainian fine arts of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev), rich in color landscapes of Ukraine, Moldova ("the Spring", 1955, Odessa art Museum). Teacher, from 1935 Professor of Kyiv art Institute (among his students was A. M. Lopukhov and V. G. Bubbles, etc.). State prize of the Ukrainian SSR them. T. G. Shevchenko (1970). Awarded the order of Lenin, 3 other orders and medals.
