Leon
Tyutijan

France • 1905−1968

Famous France-based Armenian painter Leon Tutucan was born in 1905 in amassia. Was Leon Tutucan of educated Armenian family and since childhood he began to study painting. When he was 17 years old he settled in Paris, which came after fleeing from the pogroms. In 1923, Leon began to attend the workshop Ervandla Kochar, who introduced him to cubism of Picasso and other famous artists.

In 1929, Tutucan seriously interested in surrealism, and joined the group of artists, along with van Duysburom, Karslundom and Heliona. The following year he took part in the exhibition together with ACOM, Calder and Giacometti. "The most mystical and profound surrealist" - will later say about him Gelion.

Tucudean has always been some distance from social life and from the art market, despite the large contribution to the avant-garde movement and an indisputable recognition of such masters as ARP, Elion, Wang Duisburg, Giacometti, Calder and others.

Worked Tutucan different artistic styles, but the subtlety and amazing visual language characterizes all his work: from expressionism to abstraction and surrealism.

He died in 1968 at the age of 63 years. Interest in painting masters emerged in Europe shortly after his death, but to the General public his work is still little known.
