Wolfgang Tillmans (German. Wolfgang Tillmans born. 16 Aug 1968 Remscheid) is a contemporary German photographer.
In 1968 Wolfgang Tillmans was born in Remscheid in Germany.
The Tillmans as a child shows interest in photography. In 1983 went to study in the UK, where he met with the English youth culture.
In the 1987-1990 period working as a telephone operator in Hamburg, where in 1988, moving closer to the Rave culture. Creating an entire chronicle of this youth movement, part of which is published since 1988 in subcultural magazines i-D, Spex, Prinz.
In the period from 1990 to 1992 Tillmans studying in England in College of art and design (Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, Bournemouth).
In 1992-1994 lives and works in London.
In 1994-1995 he lives in new York with artist Igenom Klein (who was in love with). In 1997 I. Klein was dying of AIDS.
In 1995, receives award Ars Viva Prize (Germany) and the Kunstpreis der Böttcherstraße (Bremen).

In 1998-1999 — Professor at the Higher school of fine arts in Hamburg.
In 2000, Tillmans was the first artist of foreign origin, received the most prestigious award of Britain in the field of art - the Turner Prize.

Since 2007 lives and works in London and Berlin.
