The modern concept of World Heritage is formulated in the system of international legal instruments ratified by most countries. The UNESCO Convention "Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" of 1972 is the first fundamental document in which cultural heritage is considered alongside natural heritage, since both Cultural Man himself and the Noosphere of the Planet created by him are the generation and continuation of the Earth's biosphere. From the point of view of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, both cultural and natural heritage are valuable as tools for human development of the biosphere for the benefit of all living beings inhabiting the planet.
The UNESCO Convention provides a classification of cultural and natural heritage, which the authors of this exhibition build from natural to cultural heritage, complemented by the cross-cutting theme of biosphere-centered development of the countries of Planet Earth. In 2012-2023, cultural critic and transformational science artist Natalia Garber improved Simon Anholt's 6-part classification of territorial brands of cities and countries, starting with the development of the cultural brand of Russia and its cultural capital St. Petersburg. She enriched the brands of cities and countries with the task of creating a noosphere of sustainable development of the Planet from micro to macro world, imbued with the spirit of the genius of place. In the same years Alina Koroleva, Associate Professor of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, researched country brands from the side of diplomatic science and practice, specializing in the culture and politics of Spain.
Therefore, in the exhibition "Bricolage "Spain": Unity of Natural and Cultural Heritage" we together enrich and integrate the image of the country through the concept of Genius Loci, the "spirit of place", which expresses the highest contribution of the studied territory to the development of the biosphere and noosphere of the Earth, and is based on interreligious agreement on the rules of governance of the Planet. As a result, to represent the natural and cultural heritage of Spain, we have developed the UNESCO Convention and Simon Anholt's territorial branding models on the 7 levels of humanity's motivation for sustainable development in this way:
1. Pristine Nature. natural monuments created by physical and biological entities or groups of such entities that have outstanding universal value in terms of aesthetics or science;
2. Reserves. Geological and physiographic formations and strictly limited areas representing the range of threatened animal and plant species of outstanding universal value from a scientific or conservation perspective;
3. Natural Beauty. Natural landmarks or strictly limited natural areas of outstanding universal value in terms of science, conservation or natural beauty.
4. Cultural Monuments: works of architecture, monumental sculpture and painting, elements or structures of an archaeological nature, inscriptions, caves and groups of elements that have Outstanding Universal Value in terms of history, art or science;
5. Cultural ensembles: groups of isolated or grouped structures whose architecture, unity or relationship to the landscape are of outstanding universal value from the point of view of history, art or science;
6. Masterpieces of the union of nature and man: landmark works of man or joint creations of man and nature, and areas, including archaeological sites, of outstanding universal value from the standpoint of history, aesthetics, ethnology or anthropology.
7. Genius loci, the spirit of a country in the ocean of the Earth's noosphere and biosphere, defining its contribution to the sustainable development of the Planet.
"We need you, Spain!" Like every country on the Planet, you make your invaluable contribution to the biosphere and noosphere of the Earth, and in this exhibition we confess our love for you, your nature, culture, people and the higher meanings you express, the life-creative power and the beauty of the existence of the starry sky above us and the moral law within us that elevates us all.
