Palazzo Cini belonged to Count Vittorio Cini (1884-1977), collector and patron of the arts. From 1951 to 1956, he rebuilt San Giorgio Maggiore and created the Cini Foundation in memory of his son, who died in a plane crash in 1949.
The collection here includes displays of porcelain, ivory, books, manuscripts, miniatures, porcelain and furniture.
But the main treasures of the museum are outstanding works of Renaissance art - Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, Piero della Francesca, Filippo Lippi and Pontormo.
