The Petit Palais was built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, like its neighbour the Grand Palais, on avenue Winston Churchill. It became a museum in 1902.
Now it houses the City Museum of Fine Arts (French Musée du Petit Palais), which includes collections of Greek, Roman and Egyptian art, objects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, collections of books and enamels, paintings by Dutch and Flemish masters of the 16th and 17th centuries, furniture collections and tapestries of the 18th century, as well as canvases by French artists of the 19th century, including works by Delacroix and Cézanne.
