Museum V.A. Tropinin and Moscow artists of his time was opened on February 11, 1971. Created on the basis of a personal collection of works of Russian art of the 18-19th centuries, he was gifted to the city of Moscow along with building No. 10 in Shchetininsky Lane Felix Evgenievich Vishnevsky, a famous collector, enthusiast and expert on Russian painting.
The collection of the museum totals about 3000 units of painting, graphics and arts and crafts. Most of the works were created in the period of the first third of the 18th — the middle of the 19th century.
