The MASP Art Museum in São Paulo is one of the most famous and important museums in Latin America and one of the most visited in the world.
The museum was founded in 1947 by the entrepreneur Assis Chateaubriand, and opened in 1968 on Avenida Paulista. The museum building is a landmark of the city and one of the main symbols of modern Brazilian architecture, it was designed in 1968 by the architect Lina Bo Bardi.
The museum has an area of 10 thousand square meters and contains over 8,000 works of art. The museum also has one of the largest art libraries in the country. The MASP collection has been included in the Brazilian National Heritage List by the Brazilian Institute of History and Art.
