The Novosibirsk State Art Museum was established in Novosibirsk by order of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of January 16, 1957.
The museum’s collection is based on exhibits handed over in the late 1950s – early 1960s by the Ministries of Culture of the RSFSR and the USSR, the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum (13 works), the Pavlovsk Palace Museum (22 works), and the Perm Art Gallery (16 works ), The Pushkin Museum to them. A.S. Pushkin, the State Hermitage and other museums in Russia.
The first private donors to the museum were P.E. Kornilov (Leningrad) and V.M. Pivkin (Novosibirsk).
In the 1960s and 1980s, the museum pursued an independent policy in the field of staffing its funds.
