Description of the artwork «Martin Luther King»

PAINTING "MARTIN LUTHER KING" and "GOLD MEDAL" SAINT MICHAEL "NEW YORK ACADEMY OF ARTS.

"Martin Luther King", 100x80 cm, oil on canvas, 2009-2010
This painting is dedicated to the famous preacher and fighter for the rights of African Americans - Martin Luther King. It is written in my ornamentalism style. The image consists of several tens of thousands of small patterns, which I painted by hand with a thin brush. The work on the canvas lasted over a year. The plot depicted is symbolic. The road is a symbol of path and movement. Martin Luther King has traveled millions of miles across America to defend the African American population. Above the road, a cross is depicted in the sky, it symbolizes the religiosity of Martin Luther King. The US flag is a symbol of the country where the main activity of the hero of the picture took place. The plot depicts the wife of Martin Luther King - Coretta Scott King, and their children: Yolanda King; Bernice Albertine King; Martin Luther King III; Dexter Scott King. Martin Luther King joined his hands as if in prayer. With this gesture, he protects his wife and children, who personify all African American residents of the United States.

Painting history and awards:
In 2009, Berik Kulmamirov, Chairman of the Union of Artists "Realism of New York", contacted me. He invited me to participate in a series of their exhibitions in New York. He sent me an official invitation for a visa, as well as a document on my admission to the Artists' Union "Realism of New York". In order to fly to the USA for the exhibition and live there for several days, I needed a considerable amount of money, which I did not have. I wrote a letter addressed to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to provide me with financial assistance. The Administration of the President of the Russian Federation forwarded my letter back to Ryazan to the Department of Culture, the Department of Culture forwarded my letter to our Ryazan branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. Of course, there was no budget. Then I wrote a letter to the President of the United States. I was answered by adviser to President Barack Obama - Valerie Jarrett, inviting me to participate in an online forum with Obama. All this time I kept Berik Kulmamirov informed about my affairs. Upon learning that I had established contact with the US Government, he immediately suggested that I paint a picture on African-American themes, exhibit it in New York at a prestigious exhibition and give it to Barack Obama. He immediately identified the theme as "Martin Luther King". I collected a lot of material, watched a lot of documentaries about Martin Luther King. So, in 2010, my picture was born.

Since I could not personally be present at the opening of the exhibition (money for the trip was never found), a file of my high-quality painting was printed on canvas, the canvas was stretched on a stretcher, framed in an expensive frame and exhibited in New York at the ASA Art gallery Gallery "on Broadway at the International Exhibition - Competition" The International Wave of Fine Arts ". The painting was awarded the highest award in the Historical Painting category - the SAINT MICHAEL Gold Medal. The awarding was carried out by the New York Academy of Arts under the MFA program. The chairman of the jury of the competition was a representative of the New York Academy of Arts, the famous American artist Thomas Legaspi, who also signed a personal certificate for the medal.

The medal was minted in Washington DC. The intermediaries who were engaged in the transfer to Russia wanted to keep it for themselves. My wife Elena conducted a journalistic investigation. As a result of the negotiations, the medal was returned to me.

A copy of the painting has been presented more than once at various prestigious exhibitions in New York, including "Black Renaissance". Later, she was transferred to the Administration of the President of the United States and is currently with the ex-head of state - Bark Obama.
