The history of the exhibition hall "Gallery A3" begins in 1986, during the late USSR and early "perestroika".
Then one of the signs of the upcoming changes was the decision to organize its own exhibition space in each district of Moscow; so in the Kiev region was created "Exhibition Hall" Arbat ". These district venues became practically the first official place where artistic events of a completely new level of freedom could take place. From 1987 to 1992, about 60 exhibitions were held in the Arbat exhibition hall.
In 1992, a reorganization took place, as a result of which the Arbat Exhibition Hall received a new name - A3 Gallery, and acquired the status of a museum-type gallery-exhibition hall. This made it possible to carry out not only exhibitions, but also research work, and, most importantly, to begin the formation of their own collection. This very difficult task, which included multiple approvals, preparation of a huge number of documents, was able to solve the director of the exhibition hall Vitaly Kopachev, at that time the youngest, most energetic and ambitious among the leaders of the exhibition halls in Moscow.
An important stage in the development of the gallery was the increase in the area of the gallery in 1992. The 150 sq.
In addition to exhibition activities, poetry readings, musical and performance events are held within the walls of the gallery. The voices of famous Russian poets sounded here: Andrei Voznesensky, Elena Katsyub, Igor Kholin, Viktor Biryukov (accompanied by saxophone Sergei Letov), Konstantin Kedrov, Alina Vitukhnovskaya, Igor Zhukov, Vadim Mesyats and others. Famous animators, directors, composers, artists, and designers introduced their work to the audience. The gallery organizes video screenings - introduces viewers to contemporary artists who use new technologies in their work. Since 2005, the A3 Gallery has been hosting the annual "Sessions of Moscow Artists" (curated by A. Volkov). Sessions of Moscow artists are accompanied by the release of catalogs.
The role of the Gallery is to help the young to express themselves, and the established ones to show their new experiences; preserve the memory of undeservedly forgotten names. This is the task of preserving culture, which does not imply, moreover, is impossible in terms of the immediate extraction of material profit. Gallery A3 develops, responding to changes in the domestic and world art process, remains true to the important principles of art - humanism, education, continuity of generations.
In 2018, the Gallery became part of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association.
