Tarkovsky did not quote works of art in his films. He made dialogues with musical, literary, philosophical, and, of course, beautiful works of philosophers. We focus on the works by Leonardo da Vinci, Andrei Rublev, Pieter Bruegel, Albrecht Durer and other masters, who are present in the films and reveal the meanings and ideas of the director's art.

A monographic exhibition ALBRECHT DÜRER e il Rinascimento fra la Germania e l’Italia  (ALBRECHT DÜRER and the Renaissance between Germany and Italy) will be on view at Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) in Milan from February 21 to June 24, 2018.

From Albrecht Dürer , Eugène Delacroix ,  Claude Monet and  Auguste Renoir to  Otto Dix and Emil Nolde : almost a third of about one and a half thousand works of art, hoarded by reclusive Cornelius Gurlitt, a son of a Nazi art dealer, in his appartments in Munich and Salzburg for many decades, are going on show in the museums of Switzerland and Germany.
