The son of an army officer, studied in Warsaw and later at the Moscow cadet corps. E. A. Budagovsky first drawing skills got in Feodosia in the country of his uncle by the sea. Then he worked in Petrograd at the Drawing school of the OPH and the graphic Department of the AH, then Vhuteina (1922-26). After graduation until 1934 he worked in the Department of child and youth literature of the State publishing house, which under the leadership of V. Lebedev have completed their professional formation. The best thing to do Budovski is illustrations for books, mainly for children: "Dam" O. F. Bergholz, "Herring" N. Keckle, "memoirs of the American student" by T. B. Aldrich, "Lykhove" D. Levin, "the adventures of Tom Sohier-RA" Mark TWAIN, "Great expectations" by Charles Dickens. All of them, except in illustrations to books by L. A. Budogosch (the artist's sister) "the tale of the lantern" and "the Story of a red-haired girl", was executed in woodcut.
Budovski is one of the largest engravers of the 1930s, has its own unique style, which kind of reflected the influence of "naïve" art. The lyricism, tenderness and simplicity lend a rare charm to his interpretations of literary works. Began in 1941, the war caught the artist in Leningrad, where he spent the entire siege, then fought in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Austria. In 1954, love forced the move of the artist in Moscow, his son was born, Budagovsky issued a few books, but mostly engaged in industrial graphics.
