V. S. Sorokin studied at the Moscow Art Institute. He considered the French impressionists and post-impressionists to be his teachers. His art expressed eternal values - life, beauty and love. But because of the danger of stigmatization by a formalist and cosmopolitan, he leaves Moscow.
In 1948, Sorokin moved to Yelets, where he taught painting at an art school. In 1957 he moved to Lipetsk. Life in the province greatly influenced his worldview.
Since the 1970s, expression has been gaining strength - the main trend of creative thirty years. He painted his paintings in the style of “Good Day” - bright, rich colors, harmony, freshness, excitement of performance. Favorite genres - still life, landscape, interior, portrait. Over time, Sorokin paints pictures faster, more decisively, boldly deforming forms.
The artist was convinced that real painting can convey everything. He believed that the purpose of art is to raise the spirit of people.
In the center of Lipetsk, on Lenin Street, 2, in 1992 the Museum-Workshop of the People's Artist of Russia V.S. Sorokin was established. It is located in the walls of the house of pharmacist V. Vyazhlinsky built in 1910 (architectural monument). In 1993 it was renovated. Nowadays it is the V. Sorokin Art Museum “House of the Master”. Its director is Tatyana Nechaeva.
