Biography and information

Painter. Member of the Union of artists of the USSR.

In 1969 graduated from Department of painting at Latvian Academy of arts with diploma work "portrait of a group of young artists" (under the guidance of E. Kalnins). In 1957 – 59 years she also studied at the graphics Department.

In 1977-78, the artist was a scholar of the German Academy in West Berlin.

Since 1970, mn. Tobacco is a member of the Union of artists.

The artist participated in exhibitions since 1963.

Her work has been exhibited in exhibitions in Moscow (1964, 1973), Prague (1974), Berlin (1974, 1977, 1978), Gdansk (1974), Budapest (1974), Dusseldorf (1973), Vilnius (1975, 1978), Venice (1986), Cologne (1987), Nujorka (1989), Porto (1990), Paris (1993), Chicago (1994), Riga (1999), Latvia.

Personal exhibitions are organized in West Berlin (1979), Riga (1980, 1987, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 1999), Daugavpils (1980), Leningrad, Gothenburg, Norcheping, Rostock (all in 1983), Moscow (1984), Paris (1987).

In Soviet times, M. N. Tobacco occupied different positions in public organizations, in 1974, awarded the medal and diploma of the Union of artists for creative success, was a people's artist of the USSR, etc. awards.

The Director of Herz Frank made a documentary film "Maya Tobacco."
