Konstantinovich Tsvirko

Belarus • born in 1913

[R. 1(14).2.1913, the village Nadeevo the Gomel region], a Soviet painter, people's artist of the Byelorussian SSR (1963). Member of the CPSU since 1953. He studied at the Moscow art Institute (1935-42) of G. G. Ryazhsky. Taught in the Belarusian theatre and art Institute (1952; in 1958-62 rector). The Chairman of the Board of the Union of artists of BSSR (1962-63). Executed in rich picturesque manner, landscapes C. create a lyrically heartfelt image of the Belarusian nature ["the March" (1947; see Fig.), "Lake Naroch" (1956) — both in the Art Museum of the Byelorussian SSR, Minsk; series of landscapes "In the land of Belarus" (1960; State prize of the Byelorussian SSR, 1967)]. The author of a series of paintings devoted to the great Patriotic war of 1941-45 and historical-revolutionary themes. Awarded the order of Labor red banner and medals.
