Jan van Kessel Senior (niderle. Jan van Kessel; 1626-1679) - Flemish painter.
As children begin to learn from Simone de Vos, and then from Brueghel the Younger, at 18 years of age has already recorded for the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp. Wrote birds, flowers, landscapes, portraits, sometimes on mythological and religious subjects. The composition of his thought, the execution colorful; figures are weaker than others, portraits mediocre. Of his paintings - "the Holy Family in a garland of flowers" (Paris), "Landscape with animals and flowers", "the Barber Shop, Tobacco". The Hermitage has his picture "Venus eating a Volcano weapons for Aeneas".
