Kuzmich Vaulin

Born in the Urals in 1870. In 1888 he received from the Zemstvo scholarship in krasnoufimskiy agricultural technical school, from which he graduated in 1890, the class of ceramics. Studied ceramic industry in Russia and Finland.

At the time, he was the organizer and head of the famous pottery workshop "Abramtsevo", created on the initiative of renowned industrialist and philanthropist Savva Mamontov. In this workshop was attended by many prominent Russian artists: Vrubel, A. Golovin and others In the mid 1900-ies of P. K. Vaulin, deciding to found their own production, creates not far from St. Petersburg, at the station Kikerino near Gatchina on the basis of a small brick factory, organized in 1878, artistic ceramic workshop.

And since 1906 has started a new and most fruitful period of creative activities of P. K. Vaulin, associated with St. Petersburg. Outstanding ceramist P. K. Vaulin, awarded by the time for his work an honorary diploma at the world art exhibition in Paris, embodies the ideas of artists and architects in the clay and glaze in the same way as in Abramtsevo, in Kikerino begin to work the most prominent artists of the time N.To.Roerich, A. M. Matveev, V. E. Borisov-Musatov, S. V. Chekhonin, N. Lancer, N.In.Vasil'ev, R. F. Meltzer. "I set myself the task to revive the Russian majolica with all its inherent beauty, exotic Russian..." - wrote Vaulin.

The first major work of volinskoy workshop were the friezes on drawings N.To.Roerich for home insurance society "Russia" on Bolshaya Morskaya St. Petersburg.

Wonderful majolica was made in a workshop Vaulina for the Russian pavilion at the Hygienic exhibition in Dresden in 1911 (the author of the pavilion and portal architect V. A. Pokrovsky), and later the portal was transferred to St. Petersburg as Director of the Institute Vladimir Podvysotsky for the construction of the library building of IEM.

Among the famous works of P. K. Vaulin - the decoration of the Cathedral of Kronstadt, Yaroslavl station and the Tretyakov gallery in Moscow.

The most remarkable work of a talented ceramist is the decoration of the mosque, built in 1910-1917 years. on the Petrograd side.

It's kind of a Museum of artistic ceramics. The slim dome and the minarets are covered with ceramic sky blue color on the facades of the building are inscribed quotations from the Koran made in fanciful Arabic script. Cathedral Mosque in St. Petersburg - one of the largest in Europe and the most Northern in the world, the height of the main dome -39, height of minarets - 48 meters.

Products chicherinsky workshop still adorn some of the remarkable buildings in St. Petersburg - in addition to the mosque the building of the Guards ' economic society (later DLT), where majolica imitated bronze ornaments.

Paulinska majolica tiles were used to decorate houses. In the house Badaeva on the corner of Vosstania and Zhukovskogo majolica used in the finishing of facades and decoration of the lobby. In 1918, Vaulin was appointed Commissioner of the porcelain factory them. M. V. In the last years of his life he was a consultant at the porcelain factory "Proletariy" in Association "ReSharper". Died of P. K. Vaulin in 1943.
