Biography and information

Sculptor Joseph Herman was born in Germany, graduated from the Dresden Academy of fine arts, worked in St. Petersburg.

In 1836 the Russian Academy of arts, Herman was awarded the title of class artist.

In the New Hermitage at the Winter Palace created two statues for the Glory of the lobby. Under the direction of Herman faced with artificial marble, made according to his recipe, the walls 36 halls of this building.

For St. Isaac's Cathedral in 1840-ies performed on the 24th of angels that are installed on the balustrade of the main dome.
