He was born in Saratov - the city, which gave Russian art of many great masters, among which are as bright as V. E. Borisov-Musatov, K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, P. Kuznetsov, P. S. Utkin... Later, G. P. Tatarnikov repeatedly appealed to the motivation of the native of the Volga river, the vast river expanses.

In the middle of 1930-ies he came to Leningrad. Studying painting in the Studio of folk art. His teachers were A. D. Zaitsev, B. A. Vogel.In 1939 he was a member of the all-Union art exhibitions. In the same year was called up for military service. Member of the Finnish company, and then the great Patriotic war.

In the postwar years, revealed himself as an outstanding landscape painter, a follower of the traditions of classical European and primarily Russian art. A trip to Czechoslovakia, Switzerland. Loved to write Leningrad.

Multi-talented G. P. Tatarnikova manifested in the creation of portraits and thematic paintings.

The artist's works possess great attractive, mesmerizing effect.

Created by G. P. Tatarnikov in the open air chamber miniatures are true masterpieces, the pearl of the scenic interpretation of natural motifs. It concerns first of all Crimean species. Paintings G. P. Tatarnikova are in many museums of Russia and CIS countries.
