Academician of architecture (1887), member (1893) and member (1894) of the Academy of arts.
In 1875 he graduated from the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture, in 1879 — the St. Petersburg Academy of arts. 1888 — lecturer, and since 1894 Professor of St. Petersburg Academy of arts. Since 1891 a senior technician of the Synod, since 1893 — member of the Archaeological Committee. In the years 1900-1918 — Professor-head of workshop Higher art school of the Academy of arts.
One of the founders of the society of architects-artists. The researcher of ancient architecture. The architect of St. Isaac's Cathedral (1910-1920 gg.).
Died September 25, 1930. Buried in the Novodevichy cemetery in Leningrad.
In 1875 he entered the Academy of arts of the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. Received medals in 1876 – 1 silver; in 1877 – 2 gold for the program: "Station in the Park near the capital"; in 1879, 1 gold for the "project invalid home in 1000 enlisted men and 50 officers." He graduated from the course Sciences of the Academy of arts with the title of class artist of 1 degree. 1880 – the pensioner of Academy of arts. In 1887, the title of academician; in 1888 was appointed adjunct Professor of architecture at the Academy of fine arts. Since 1893 – member of the Academy of arts. In 1894, Professor of art and architectural classes of the Academy of arts and member of the Board. Techniques of Control in the Holy Synod and a member of the Technical Construction Committee under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Builder (jointly with the architect G. I. Kotov) of the Moscow City Duma, etc.
