Borisovich Vakser

Russia • 1916−1942

Artist and architect, a remarkable painter and a book designer. Life the way it was short, but bright and capacious.

Born in Baku, 14 September, 1916 in the family of intellectuals. Already at the age of four surprised and delighted with their drawings. From 1931 to 1934, while in Architectural College in Minsk (received from the second

course), he simultaneously attended art Studio Itorama. During this period, worked professionally painted portraits, murals, handed out to friends numerous caricatures and cartoons - witty, apt, bright.

In 1934 was passed in the third year of the preparatory Department of the Academy of Arts, and in 1935 moved to the first year of the faculty of architecture.

Has created magnificent illustrations for several books published in the prewar years: "Til Eulenspiegel" by Charles de fire, "Oblomov" by I. Goncharov, fairy tales "1001

nights", "Northern stories" K. Paustovsky etc. the Originals of these drawings are stored in the library of the WAH with an inscription by the author. (There's also a book about Moses Vexare -

"Vaccarella", released in 2001).

6 Dec 1941, brilliantly defended his diploma project and was enrolled in graduate school.

From the first days of the war he began work in the Windows of TASS. Many of his works have survived and are in collections of the Russian National library. In 2009, the Museum of defense of Leningrad was presented a large exposition

it works.

Died Moses Waxer from exhaustion in the hospital of the Academy of Arts on 4 February 1942. Buried at the Smolensk

cemetery; apparently, together with the professors of the Academy - where there is a monument.
