Around 1830 Julius Johann döring attended courses at the Academy of fine arts Dresden from 1838 he studied with E. Bindeman.
In 1844, the artist traveled to southern Germany and Northern Italy drawing national costumes.
In 1845, through Poland, he moved to Jelgava. Here he painted portraits commissioned and works as a teacher in the gymnasium of Jelgava (1865 – 83).
In 1852, in order to study painting Y. Th. Doering visited Germany, Italy, France, circa 1885 and 1889 – Greece and Palestine.
In his work mainly turned to the genre of the portrait (approximately 1000 portraits) and wrote 23 altarpiece.
