Narcisse Virgilio
Díaz de la Peña

Began working as a printer apprentice, and then worked in factories for the production of sèvres porcelain. Later he studied under the guidance of Susana in the Lille School of fine arts. In his early works there is the influence of romanticism. In 1831 Diaz de La peña met théodore Rousseau and about 1841 joined him in Barbizon on to become one of the prominent members of the Barbizon group. His works are distinguished by a radiant colour and special interest in depicting the effects of sunlight, filtering through the dense foliage. Often he included in his landscapes of the human figure.
