The ANIKUSHIN, MIKHAIL KONSTANTINOVICH (1917−1997), painter, sculptor, one of the leaders of traditionalism in the Russian school of sculpture.
Born in Moscow, 19 September (2 October) 1917 in the family business-the floor person. He studied at the Academy of arts (Leningrad Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture (LINEAS); 1937−1941, 1945−1947), where his teachers were V. A. Sinai, and A. T. Matveev. Participant of the Second world war (1941−1944). He lived in Leningrad/St. Petersburg.
Emerged as a master in the process of working on the memorial images of A. S. Pushkin (the seated figure at the metro station "Pushkinskaya" in Leningrad, 1954; monument in Tashkent, 1974; etc.). Rightfully the most popular of these works have earned a monument on the Petersburg Arts Square (bronze, granite, 1949−1957; built in 1957; Lenin prize, 1958), his romantic pathos and composite scale perfectly blended with the ancient architectural surroundings. Created one of the most large-scale post-war monuments to V. I. Lenin on Moscow square in Leningrad (height with pedestal is about 16 m; bronze, granite; built in 1970). Fulfilled the sculptural decoration of the memorial to Heroic defenders of Leningrad (architects V. A. Kamensky and S. B. Speransky; opened in 1975), on the whole, however, moreoriginal and repeating the conventional standards of the Soviet "monumental propaganda". Created many formal portraits (cosmonaut Titov, bronze, 1961−1963, Tretyakov gallery; etc.) and a number of strictly academic in the form of tombstones (artists: Y. M. Yuriev, bronze, granite, 1961; N. To. Cherkasova, 1975, both in necropolis of Alexander Nevsky Lavra).
He was Chairman of the Board of the Leningrad branch of Union of artists of the RSFSR (1962), showing himself as a semi-official ideologue, but at the same time, and as a skilled administrator-Manager. Hero Of Socialist Labor (1977). Worked actively as a teacher: he taught at Lingate 1947.
Dudin died in St. Petersburg on 18 may 1997.
