Biography and information

He was born on February, 3 (January, 22 Old Style), 1899 in Slobodskoe, Vyatka province in a large bourgeois family. In military and postwar years created and drawings - "Firing squad", "Threshing" (EMII), reflecting the harsh truth of life. Many years (1938-1960) Fedor Konstantinovich Shmelev worked as a teacher of the Sverdlovsk art school named after I.D. Shadr. His students remembered him as a very demanding, strict teacher. He lived more than 90 years. Since April 1960, he lived at 62 Lenin Avenue, Building 1, entrance 1. In this house lived many artists - members of the Sverdlovsk regional organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. A short stature, fairly strong build, bald, black as buttons, then as drills, his eyes. He was dressed neatly, but all in one broad gray suit. He made an impression of a completely closed person who did not need anyone. Hardly anyone could see the least bit of charm in him. But the man was with his own interesting world and was really good.
