Description of the artwork «Rubedo»
I really don't like to give titles to my work, as this always entails some kind of semantic limitation, fixation, misdirection of extraneous and secondary associations, etc.
Sometimes I give the images the conventional names "Rubedo", "Albedo", "Cinnabar", "Salt", referring to the terms of alchemical work, not at all to give them any popish mystery or pseudo-recognition. I am simply pointing out once again the similarity between the alchemist's opus and the painter's craft, or rather using them as poetic metaphors that very accurately reflect what goes on in the strenuous practice of painting.
