Anniversary personal exhibition "Autographs of Love" in the Historical and Art Museum of Kaliningrad
Anniversary exhibition of paintings by the famous Kaliningrad artist Boris Zhigalov "Autographs of Love"
On July 30, 2020, a large-scale retrospective exhibition of Boris Zhigalov "Autographs of Love" was opened at the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art. The exposition presents more than 70 city landscapes, made in the technique of pasty oil painting. The master's main source of inspiration is Svetlogorsk. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to fully experience the attractive atmosphere of a picturesque resort town on the shores of the Baltic Sea, to which one would like to return again and again. Also, in his work, the artist often refers to the historical views of Kaliningrad-Königsberg.
Most of the works on display are the result of the Baltic International Plein Airs, which have been held in Svetlogorsk for over sixteen years. Similar art plein airs in the territory of the former East Prussia date back to 1895. The first of them was organized by the German philanthropist Hermann Blode in the city of Nida. To revive the cultural life on the Curonian Spit, he invited painters to his hotel. For one or two paintings on account of payment, they could live there at full board, focusing exclusively on creativity. This glorious tradition has not been forgotten in modern Lithuanian Nida.
In 2004, Honored Artist of Russia Oleg Melekhov revived the tradition of holding international plein airs in the Russian Baltic. Under its terms, artists could only capture views of Svetlogorsk on their canvases. Like the participants of the plein-airs in Nida, they donated some of the paintings painted here to sponsors and the city.
