Andrei Petrovich Ryabushkin. Born on October 17 (29), 1861, in the village of Stanichnaya Settlement [2], Tambov Province. His father, Peter V. and his elder brother Fedor were icon painters, and in childhood, Andrei often helped them in their work. At fourteen years old, A. Ryabushkin was orphaned. Accidentally, A. Kh. Preobrazhensky, a student of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture who was visiting in the village, noticed in his village. He took the young man to Moscow and identified him in the school.
Ryabushkin did not finish school, went to Petersburg, where he entered the Academy of Arts in 1882. He studied, in particular, from Pavel Chistyakov. His thesis work was a work on a religious theme - "The Descent from the Cross" (1890). During his travels in Russia he became interested in Russian history and the Russian folk epic.
In the 1890s, the artist wrote custom-made works, drawings and watercolors for publications and albums, sketches of compositions for the intended painting of the St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod. His major historical picture in this period was “Moscow Street of the XVII century on a holiday” (1895).
A significant role in the works of the artist is assigned to the Russian landscape. In the decorative decision of the canvas, Ryabushkin went from the tradition of Russian icon painting and fresco paintings. In 1901, he painted one of the best paintings, The Wedding Train in Moscow. It depicts Moscow XVII century. In 1913, the painting was sold by collector Sergei Shcherbatov to the Tretyakov Gallery.
In the last years of his life, Ryabushkin was fascinated by the creation of illustrations for Russian epics and for village themes. At this time, he wrote the painting "Over Water" (1898), "In the Village" (1902), "Drew the guy into the dance ..." (1902), "In the Village. Towards noon (1903).
In 1903, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Treatment in Switzerland did not help. The artist died in the estate of his friend the artist Vasily Belyaev, in the estate of Didvino in the Novgorod province and district, and was buried at the nearest cemetery in Dobry Selo.
Dust reburied in 1957 at the Luban town cemetery, a monument was erected on the grave.
110 paintings by artist A. Ryabushkin are exhibited in the State Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the All-Russian Museum of A.S. Pushkin, the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Pskov Art Museum. Several works are in private collections of paintings.
