Born in Stockholm on 24 June 1695 he Studied painting from his father, artist Martin Meytens Senior who moved to Sweden from the Hague. Young Martin continued her studies in London, Paris, Vienna, then lived and worked in Rome and Turin. Early in his career, drew miniature portraits on enamel. Painting in oils began at approximately 1730, after he had settled in Vienna. Gained popularity as a portraitist of Austrian aristocracy and the Royal court. In 1732 was appointed court painter and in 1759 the Director of the Vienna Academy of fine arts. He died March 23, 1770 in Vienna.
