Max Hetzler Gallery presents
solo exhibition new works of Louise Bonnet. This is the first monographic exhibition of an American artist both in the gallery itself and in Germany in general.
Bonnet, known for her images of exaggerated proportions and grotesque limbs, explores the theme of melancholy, loneliness, nostalgia or sadness in her works. Her strong body sensation and precise observation of the movements of her parts is expressed in strange curves, swollen noses, swollen arms and legs. These portraits resemble caricatures or surrealistic images, but they create a much more subtle and soft sensation.
Bonnet draws inspiration for his work from sources such as Hitchcock movies, portraits of Cindy Sherman, or paintings by Lucas Cranach. Usually these links are distorted, as are the bodies themselves.
