Albertina Gallery has dedicated a diverse
solo exhibitionthe Georgian artist Niko Pirosmani (1862 - 1918). This self-taught artist wrote vivid and expressive images of animals, as well as scenes from the life of old Georgia and its inhabitants. Now he is regarded as an avant-gardist who deserves recognition.
The concept of art by Niko Pirosmani is presented as a wide open field, where he, like a tramp, consciously leads a nomadic life. The artist walks between town and country, hotels and kliros, while at the same time being in the center of society. His work, rather, a place not in galleries and museums, and in inns, taverns and shops. Thus, Niko Pirosmani embodies the vision of the artist as a shrewd stranger.
