Henry Klebach. On the edge of the world
Exhibition February 16 − March 31, 2019
An exhibition of paintings by Henrii Klebach is held in the exhibition halls of the Latvian National Museum of Art "On the edge of the world"created in collaboration with artists Arthur Arnis and Liene Matskus.
Henry Klebach is known as a painter of urban, rural and harsh northern landscapes, who throughout his life was occupied with the search for new motives and moods. Experimenting with a variety of materials, means of expression, perspectives and forms, the artist tirelessly sought to constantly redo the found, to achieve the goal, often sacrificing the stylistic integrity of works.
The exhibition, whose name was borrowed from Henriy Klebach’s painting At the Edge of the World, in 1971, mainly presents monumental winter landscapes, as well as lyrical views of cities, revealing the winter close to the painter’s heart as a grateful a theme for testing the possibilities of the genre and a rich source material for experiments with means of artistic expression.
The spatial and sculptural installations of Arthur Arnis and Liena Matzkus characterize landscape structures and forms. Their abstracted and mystified plastic objects resemble archetypical prototypes or shamanic visions. The exhibition, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Henriy Klebach, was created in the format of a dialogue, which allows the past to be synthesized with the views of contemporary artists.
