Piero della Francesca (1412 (?) - 1492) - Italian painter and theorist, representative of the Early Renaissance, author of mathematical treatises, one of the discoverers of the laws of perspective. Among the works of Piero della Francesca is a unique manuscript “On Perspective in Painting” from the collection of the Palazzo Magnani Foundation, which is the basis for understanding the whole perspective and the essence of Renaissance visual illusions. Born in Borgo San Sepolcro. He worked in different centers of Italy - Florence, Ferrara, Rimini, Rome, Urbino, Perugia, in particular, at the courts of many Italian rulers, including the papal one.

It is noteworthy that fame to Piero della Francesca came only in the middle of the XIX century. Prior to this, his works did not attract much attention, and often were generally attributed to other masters. Now the interest in the artist's work is great, and Francesca himself is regarded as the key figure of the Italian Quattrocento.
