An exhibition has opened at the General Staff Building of the Hermitage
“Abstractionism in Italy. Umberto Mariani ".
Umberto Mariani (1936) is a modern Italian artist who belongs to that galaxy of people of art whose name has been well known in European art circles for a long time.
Mariani brought 30 of his works to the exhibition. The exposition consists of two parts: the first is the early works of the artist of the 1960s – 1970s, in which the process of his creative development lies. In the second part, visitors will see more recent works, including the most recent ones. Unusual paintings are folds - folds of paints, folds of fabric, folds of lead, because Umberto Mariani is known for his complex drapery on irregularly shaped canvases; his works explore the illusions of light and shadow created in the folds of fabric.
The exposition in the Hermitage is the first personal exhibition of the artist in Russia.
