Charles White. Retrospective

Exhibition February 17 − June 9, 2019
Exhibition "Charles White. RetrospectiveGives an idea of the artist’s career and influence in cities that he called home: Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.

The exhibition consists of 100 drawings and engravings, as well as lesser-known oil paintings.
The magnificent draftsman White focused on images of both historical and contemporary African Americans. He extolled their dignity, humanity and heroism in the face of a long history of racial injustice in the country and called on their viewers and other colorful artists to demonstrate their own self-esteem.

White created non-violent images, despite the escalation of racial tensions; it was only in the mid-1960s that he became disillusioned with slow progress and began filling his work with hints of continued violence, poverty and inequality.
