The Tretyakov Gallery will hold an exhibition of works by prominent Norwegian expressionist
Edward Munch (1863–1944), which for the first time will present in Russia the heritage of the master in so full.
The exposition will include about 70 paintings and 30 graphic works, photographs and memorial items mainly from
Munch Museum in Osloas well as from
The Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin.
The theme of one of the sections of the exhibition will be "Munch and Dostoevsky." It will illustrate the great influence of the novels of the writer on the formation of the worldview and the imaginative thinking of the brilliant Norwegian expressionist, and will allow to see new contextual comparisons of European and Russian art.
The most famous viewer and the expected exhibit at the exhibition will be the famous "Scream", one of the versions of which is stored in the Munch Museum. Originally the picture was called "Despair". A man in horror from this picture became one of the most recognizable images in art.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of "branded" Munch expressionism with its expressive lines, simplified forms and symbolic subjects with motives of death and loneliness, but with love and thirst for life.
It is not for nothing that the artist’s creativity received worldwide recognition, his paintings are amazing with the power of emotions, and innovative techniques had a significant impact on the development of the art of the 20th century.
