Irwin Penn

Exhibition January 25 − March 7, 2019
Pace Gallery presents the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong by the world famous artist Irwin Penn. The exhibition includes a selection of the most iconic works in fashion photography, portrait painting, nude and still lifes for the four decades of his career.

Irwin Penn is known worldwide for his work as a photographer. But initially he was an artist - and this exhibition presents a small selection of paintings that he made at the end of his career. Many of them began with what Penn did drawing graphite or ink, which then photographed, enlarged and printed to emphasize the graphic style of their lines.

Pictures of the master do not repeat striking and smooth style of his photos, but share similar printing methods and bold character. The practice of drawing developed in the early 2000s, Penn began to abandon the printing stage, drawing more directly and freely, as evidenced by the smooth expressiveness of the paintings presented at this exhibition.
