The exhibition includes more than 100 works from 17 public and private museums and large collections of Russian collectors. For retrospectives, the Museum of Russian Impressionism collected paintings from private collections throughout Russia: from Perm, Kazan, Vologda, Kursk, Vyatka, Astrakhan and others.

Nowadays Nikolai Vasilievich Meshcherin, a little-known to a wide circle of painting lovers, was once popular among famous collectors and is respected among professionals, including I.E. Grabar, I.I. Levitan.

Without receiving artistic education, the son of a merchant of the first guild, the young man became interested in painting and photography. The main theme of his paintings were the inconspicuous beauty of Central Russian nature, made with lyricism and inner warmth. So, according to Levitan, Meshcherin owes the appearance of such a spiritual landscape motif, like village sheds.
