Completed during political upheavals in Florence in the late 1520s, the paintings of the artist of that period resonate with acute psychological tension. The recent restoration of the “Meeting of Mary and Elizabeth” reveals an amazing range of colors and exquisite details that led Pontormo to his first trip from Italy to the United States.
