My childhood

Exhibition February 27 − March 31, 2019
State Museum of the East presents the exhibition of Grigori Inger "My childhood".

The exhibition will exhibit more than 50 works by the artist. In the 1970s, the artist began a series of graphic works devoted to childhood, recreating in it the world destroyed by the war of a Jewish town.

The project will show the work that he created throughout his life; illustrations to the works of the writer Sholom Aleichem, - drawings that have become world classics to the stories “The Boy Motl”, “The Enchanted Tailor”.

And also for the first time, the Bible cycle will be presented - one of the brightest series of the artist, dedicated to the history of the Old Testament, which for Inger turns out to be part of the actual history of the 20th century.

The artist managed, by combining classical craftsmanship and artistic discoveries of the early 20th century, to vividly describe the world of Russian Jewish culture. He is known, above all, as one of the most brilliant illustrators of Jewish literature and as an artist who created a universal artistic language on national soil.

At the same time, Gregory Inger - the artist of chamber exhibitions and good, memorable illustrations, communication with his drawings - it is always something very intimate and touching.
