Peter Bruegel Junior. "The Sermon of John the Baptist"

Exhibition March 20 − June 30, 2019
The State Hermitage Museum presents an exhibition. “Peter Bruegel the Younger. "The Sermon of John the Baptist". The exposition is dedicated to the completion of the restoration of this painting, which has not been exhibited for many years.

The painting by Pieter Bruegel the Younger is dated 1604. This is one of the variations of the famous work of the same name by Peter Bruegel the Elder - the father of the artist, written in 1566. Hermitage work is somewhat different from the original Bruegel the Elder. Apparently, it was written according to the author's drawing on cardboard, remaining in the workshop, since the original was already with the customers.

The opening of the exhibition is timed to the Day of the Memory of Nikolai Nikolaevich Nikulin, a long-term keeper of the Dutch and German paintings in the State Hermitage Museum.
