An exhibition opened in the Manezh of the Small Hermitage
“Gods, People, Heroes. From the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. ”dedicated to the outstanding archaeological discovery of the world famous ancient Roman cities - Pompeii and Herculaneum, who died in the first century as a result of the eruption of the volcano of Vesuvius.
This exhibition is a large-scale project of the State Hermitage,
National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the archaeological park of Pompeii. The exposition includes more than 200 masterpieces of ancient art, among which are about 70 works of the Pompeian Hermitage collection.
For the first time in Russia, world-famous monuments are presented - frescoes, mosaics, sculpture in bronze and marble, exquisite works of decorative and applied art, objects of everyday life, reflecting the religious side of Roman life and the high level of socio-economic development of society.
The exhibits specially selected for the exhibition - unique glass objects, bronze articles, painted ceramic vessels, grouped in shop windows by type, materials and purpose, for certain recreate the habits of the Romans who lived 2,000 years ago, their life and leisure, lifestyle - Roman modus vivendi, unthinkable without public life, visits to theatrical performances and gladiator fights.
