Free cities engraving

Exhibition April 5 − May 26, 2019
Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts presents an exhibition “Engraving free cities. European etching of the XVIII century from the collection of EMI ".

The collection of the Yekaterinburg Museum has more than 200 European engravings of the late 16th – 19th centuries, which most of the time are kept in collections hidden from the eyes of visitors.

The exhibition sheds light on the history of the formation of the museum collection of European prints and allows you to get acquainted with a small part of the works that formed its foundation more than 80 years ago.

In total, the exhibition presents 47 sheets, made in the technique of etching. They acquaint visitors with the work of several generations of Augsburg and Venetian engravers and publishers, helping to get an idea of the genre diversity of engravings published at this time (biblical scenes, architectural fantasies, costume sketches, ornaments).
