The Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to present 11 paintings from the prestigious Mellon St. Petersburg collection, leased to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond.
From the middle to the end of the 20th century, philanthropists Paul and Rachel Mellon created an extensive collection of 19th and 20th century European works. These paintings, illustrating the artistic experiments that took place in these centuries, were not thematic in nature, but reflected the personal interests of Mellon.
The exhibition features works by Karl Vernet, Eugene Boudin, Pierre Bonnard, Raoul Dufy, Kees van Dongen, Jacques Villon, Eugene Delacroix, Georges Braque and Giorgio Morandi.
