The New York Historical Society presents a unique project.
"The Hudson Rise".
The exhibition explores 200 years of environmental change and environmental activity along the “most interesting river in America” with the help of artefacts, the media and the famous paintings of the Hudson River school.
The exposition tells how human activity influenced the river and, in turn, how the river environment influenced the development of industry, commerce, tourism and environmental awareness. The exhibition also explores how experts in various fields are currently creating ways to rehabilitate and reengineer river areas in response to climate change.
Hudson and its environs were not just a reservoir, but a home for people and hundreds of species of fish, birds and plants, witnessed battles for the use of the river valley and its resources.
For more than 200 years, writers and artists have captured the river in paintings, drawings, literature and photographs, while surveyors and scientists mapped and measured each of its parts.
