Tommy Wayne Cannon: On the Edge of America

Exhibition April 6 − September 16, 2019
One of the most influential, innovative and talented Indian artists of the 20th century, T. Cannon embodied the activism, cultural transition and creative expression that defined America in the 1960s and 1970s.

The work of Cannon - an artist, poet and budding musician - is deeply personal, but undoubtedly political, reflecting his cultural heritage, the experience of Vietnam war veterans, and the turbulent social and political period during which he worked.

Cannon preferred bold color combinations, combinations between native and non-native elements and never shied away from the complexity and nuances of identity politics. Cannon explored American history and popular culture, carefully studied the historical paths of Western art, while creating a completely new visual dictionary.

Exhibition "On the edge of America»Notes Cannon's creative range and his artistic legacy thanks to numerous paintings and works on paper, as well as his poetry and music.
