Guest of Honor: Jean-Antoine Houdon

The Detroit Institute of the Arts will present an exhibition dossier with two masterpieces of eighteenth-century French portrait sculpture provided by the Louvre Museum. Created by the greatest sculptor of the Enlightenment Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741–1828), the portraits depict the two most iconic founders of America, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington.

ExhibitionHudon’s terracotta portraits showcases along with painting, sculpture, textiles and paperwork, while the gallery already contains important pieces of furniture and decorative art that provide a wider visual context.
